Cabin Fever

As I enter week two of being signed off work I am totally bored to tears! Being off work is not good for me, my back feels worse and I can feel my knee's seizing up a bit more as each day pass's.

I need to keep active both mentally and physically, and I'm so frustrated with my restrictions at the moment. Went food shopping with Himself yesterday, which was the first time I'd set foot out of the house since last Monday when I bumped into Lesley aka the  Mad Dog Woman of Shackleford.

Luckily I'm the sort of person that is happy with the peace and quite of my own company, I'm usually fairly adept at keeping myself occupied, plus I also had the delightful Badger Boo to keep me entertained, although he's still going out with his Dog Walker daily, as I think it would be unfair to keep him confined as well.

I have been keeping busy though, I've been doing my IT course for an hour a day **resigned sigh** it's pretty boring to be honest but needs must I suppose, I never thought I would be doing so much of it in my own time but at least it keeps me out of mischief.

I've also been doing some knitting, well actually a lot of knitting. I've now finished the front of my Jumper and I've done two thirds of the back as well.

Front of my Jumper
When the backs done, I still have the sleeves to do but I'm starting to feel the end is in sight at last, and then I'll have to get one of the wonderful ladies at Godalming Stitch 'n' Bitch to teach me how to put it all together, as the instructions on that part of the pattern don't make any sense to me at all.

The way this Summer is going, I won't need to wait for Winter to wear it, I'll be able to put it on straight away it's so chilly and wet.

I'm very happy with the way it has turned out, would you believe  I've only used two of the most simple stitches knit and purl, it's amazing what patterns can be achieved with different placement of these two simple stitches.

I have also been crocheting rectangles approx 6"x7" for the last few months when my hands need a break from knitting. They are simple to do and don't require any thinking about, and are great for using up all the oddments of wool I buy in Charity shops. At the moment I have done 207 I'm not too sure how many I need to do, as the plan for them is to make a huge bedspread that touches the floor for my King Size bed. If I was any good with numbers I could probably work it out, but as it is I'll just keep crocheting and laying them on the bed every now and them to check.

One day these will be part of my huge King Size bedapread...

Not a lot else to write about today, although I did catch a very interesting link in a regular blog I read called Murdoch, She Wrote about this book everyone's been raving about "Fifty Shades of Grey"

It's not the type of book I'm interested in, although I enjoyed this write up of it very much called:-  Fifty things that annoy me about "Fifty Shades of Grey"

It's a link well worth checking out!

  1. The weather is so awful, you don't want to go out in this!

Your jumper looks complicated, well done on having the patience to keep on with it.

I must update you about Themba - will put it on the blog.

    Take care x.

    1. OK thanks Lesley, hope all is well?

I've always enjoyed making things, although Cross Stitch is my real passion just a bit to labour intensive for my hands these days, but sometimes I pick it up and give it a go.

  2. Well done with your knitting - the jumper looks lovely. Lots of patience needed and I have to admit to giving up knitting many years ago, it never just turned out to look like the picture in the pattern! I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey, but have read so many criticism of it. I know we are all supposed to have a book within us, but perhaps some author's words should stay there. An hour it IT a day keeps the whatever away - old IT Rhyme ;). How nice you bumped into Lesley - made the food shopping more cheerful. I bet Badger Boo is enjoying you being off work.

    1. Must admit the jumper has had a fair few hours put into it and still a fair few to go, but the end is now is sight. It would cost a fortune if you worked out an hourly rate for it. Good job I've done most of it at the Wendy House lol.

It was great to finally meet Lesley after all this time, such a lovely lady.

    2. Oh, yes, that's the problem with handmade, just cannot count the financial cost (time-wise) of making things.

    3. As I'm doing it when I'm doing nothing else then it doesn't really matter as I can stop and start at will, the yarn only cos me £25 so all in all it's actually a very cheep woolen jumper. Well it will be when it's finished lol
