Day Five ~ Health ~ #BlogFlash2013

Have you ever experienced pain?

Of course you have.

I live with constant pain every day. It's not something I like to go on about, but I feel it needs a mention.Too many people are quick to judge about my state of health because on the outside I look fine.

Most of the time I have a big cheesy grin on my face and am joking about. When in fact it's a cover for that way I'm really feeling! I don't like to go around with a glum face moaning all the time, telling everybody my woes, although too some people that is a way of life.

I just want to get on with things, live a normal life for as long as I can. Before the pain of my Arthritis takes over completely, and the massively high doses of painkillers I'm on are unable to keep me working and supporting myself financially.

I'm not the only person in this position, many people have inner demons of one sort or another, which may have a massive impact on their lives! It may not be pain, it may be a mental health issue. But what makes people think they have the right to judge our situations?

Have you ever decided you know something about somebodies health, when in fact you know nothing about their situation?

  1. arthritis is a painful illness to have. People have a tendency to judge others when they have no clue as to what is going on in their bodies. We've got to learn to get past that!

  2. I have seen bad cases of arthritis hurt someone both inside and out. They need to be lifted up and not looked down upon. The same with someone who has mental illness.

    1. Thanks Lesley, I don't think about it too often as lived with it for so long, you sort of get used to it after a while xxx

  4. Yes, you never know what's going on inside a person. Someone might look healthy, but have physical or mental problems or the other way around as well. Judging by the looks is silly.

Sorry to hear about this, I salute to your honesty.

  5. Pain is not always obvious, and sometimes the assumption is that people who do not carry a 'sign' about their pain, clearly are not hurting. We are all so quick to judge - wrongly.

  6. Wonderful post. It's really important not to judge - we rarely have all the facts!

  7. Great post. Thank you for sharing this.

My late grandmother had arthritis in her knees and needed a crutch to help her round the house. That was the only indication she was struggling or in pain. She never complained and was always the best company you could hope for no matter how bad her pain was. It's always best never to assume anything of anyone.

  8. I had a friend who had knee surgery on both knees, first one then the other. I watched her struggle with a few stairs and gave her empathy. I really didn't understand until I began to have knee problems. I talked with her a long time about knees, and really connected. Too bad we can't all have that sort of true empathy for each other!

    1. What a great comment and so very true sadly I have to wait another 13 to years when I'm 60 before they will consider new knee's for me, so I have to have an Arthroscopy every couple of years to clean out the debris, as they put it ..

  9. My mother deals with chronic pain and it is something I wouldn't wish on anyone. I'm glad you're able to put on a smile and joke around. How dismal would it be otherwise.
And for not being seen, I remember when I was seven months pregnant and couldn't get a seat on the bus because I just looked fat. Sigh. You just never know what's going on underneath.

    1. Thank you for your comment.

Sorry to hear about your mother, chronic pain is a nasty passenger, I hope she has found a good coping strategy also. People are far to quick to judge on appearance alone **resigned sigh**

    2. Thank you so much for sharing this, Dawn. There are so many conditions that can't be easily seen. That doesn't make their impact or severity any less.

    3. Thank you Terri, you are so right. People should never judge what they don't know..
