World Animal Day 4th October

World Animal Day October 4th

World Animal Day Blog Hop: 10/4

Sponsored by Terri Giuliano Long, author of In Leah’s Wake, and David M. Brown, author of upcoming title Man vs Cat

I've had dogs most of my life, first it was the family dog Sam who was a Lab/Greyhound cross, he was a nightmare I realise now, always escaping and never came when he was called, I would go so far as to say he had no training at all, But he was the most amazing dog, so affectionate and not a bad bone in his body. He was my best friend and confident through those rough school years of the bullies.

Sam age unknown but we had him 15 years...

Sam we had him 15 years and think he was 16 or 17 in this picture...

I absolutely love Rottweilers, but I've not had one for many years now due to my ill health, but they used to be a massive part of my life and I used to enjoy showing them. We won many prizes and I have even exhibited two of my Rottweilers at Crufts.

I got my first Rottie Roma in 1985 and she was a sweetheart, I used to show her a bit and I caught the showing bug when she kept winning. She was a big heavy old fashioned type, not very feminine to look at but she had the biggest heart, and taught me an awful lot about how wonderful this breed is.

Roma approx 5 years old...
When Roma was two years old I got Soldier, who was the softest dog I have ever owned. His temperament was 200% goodness so I registered him as a PAT Dog,  and he was one of the first Rottweilers in the country to be used as a PAT Dog. I used to visit Holy Cross Hospital in Surrey with him for many years, the patients adored him. He won so many prizes in the show ring and qualified for Crufts at Richmond Championship Show. He was one of a kind, a true ambassador  of the breed.

One of my favorite head studies of Soldier...

This picture was taken at Crufts with my son who is all grown up now..

My next dog was Meegan who was Soldiers half sister, she was very small, petite and feminine I showed her as a puppy and junior, she did very well and qualified for Crufts following in her brothers footsteps. By the time she was two years old I retired from the world of dog showing due to family pressures, it's a world I missed for many years.

A very pretty head study of Meegan..

All my lovely Rotties crossed over the Rainbow Bridge a long time ago, but I still miss them like it was yesterday

I now have a very cute Cocker Spaniel now called Badger Boo, he is 11 years young and pretty much the center of my world, and he goes virtually everywhere with me.

I believe if he is not welcome, then I am not welcome, as he is part of my family...

He writes his very own blog called Badger Boo's Daft Adventures, where he writes about his adventures and his his memoirs called Jackanory Stories. Badger Boo has been on facebook for many years and has a very popular facebook group. The Jackanory Stories came about because he is so new to blogging, and people and pets wanted to know his story, you can read Part One here.

I hope you have enjoyed reading about my dogs past and present, I have certainly enjoyed writing about them and the memories will be with me forever..

  4. Great pictures. I once had a rott/basset mix. He was the best dog. protective of his area but never met a stranger. He loved to play hide & seek with the wild rabbits on the farm. Strange how he never hurt a single one. He was not interested in them except for some fun.

  9. Such lovely pictures. I grew up around dogs my whole life--my dad had all kinds. Now my husband and I have a Belgian Malanois that will go wherever we go and ride on anything, no kidding. To get him in the car all you do is open the door and say "load up". He knows we're going somewhere when I'm packing stuff up

    1. Thanks Amanda the Malanois are great aren't they, there are several where I work, such intelligent and majestic dogs.

Badger Boo always knows when we are off on an adventure and goes bonkers chasing around the house barking, even though we try to be discrete so as not to disturb the neighbour's as its usually very early lol x
