So Not Impressed

Finally decided I was brave enough to start knitting myself a jumper. Found a pattern I liked, purchased the wool and needles, now I  had everything I needed and was ready for the off.

As I was casting on I realised I had picked up the shorter needles not the long ones, me being me thought "ok not a problem, will finish casting on and get bigger ones tomorrow."
The next day I got my longer needles, plus a long round shaped flexible one, it probably has a proper name but I'm afraid I don't know it.

I'm gaily knitting away, following the easy to read pattern, I do have a bit of a problem reading knitting patterns. I'd been at it about three hours, when I suddenly noticed I had dropped a stitch about 5 rows down!

Now, I have learnt to pick up stitches, but not when they are several rows down. I had no idea what to do, and as I was religiously following this pattern I decided to embark on my worst nightmare, unpicking the rows until I got to offending row, then trying to get them all back on the needle!

It all went surprisingly well actually, I was feeling very pleased with myself. I got all the stitches back on and I was off again. This was great I was on a roll!

Then the pattern changed, but it wasn't working out. Oh no, what had I done wrong? So I counted my stitches five times and came up with a different answer each time.

So I asked the long suffering Himself to check how any stitches I had. He kindly obliged and said I had eighteen too many. "Are you sure" I screamed, and made him count them again, still had eighteen too many!

Thought about decreasing a couple of stitches each end, but then that would cause problems when sewing it up when finished.

There was no other option, I had to unpick all my hard work and start again!

I think this jumper is going to take me a very long time to knit.

SO NOT IMPRESSED!

  1. Hhmm, I used to have the patience to knit. Your story reminds me why it's so frustrating. Hope it all works out in the end.

    1. So far so good, I've now got to the point I was a when I had to unpick it all, pattern is now forming.

Fingers crossed I don't muck up again.
